A Creative Journey Through Art Deco
Team XBD Collective participates in Casa Milano’s Talking Walls, Season 2
Participating in "Talking Walls" Season 2 by Casa Milano has been a transformative experience for the XBD Collective residential interior design team. The competition not only challenged us to push the boundaries of our creativity but also tested our ability to bring to life a captivating and functional design inspired by the grandeur of the Art Deco era. Together with Olena Vasylieva, our Associate Design Manager and mentor, Ramshaa Rayees, our talented FF&E specialist, and Junior Interior Designer Saania Kazi, we embarked on this exciting journey, drawing inspiration from a style synonymous with bold geometric patterns and lavish ornamentation.
Reviving the Bold Elegance of Art Deco
From the outset, our vision was clear: to reimagine Art Deco in a way that reflects the modern aesthetic while maintaining the timeless elegance of the 1920s. Under Olena's guidance, we carefully developed a bathroom design concept that captures the opulence and grandeur of this iconic style. We infused it with sleek lines, symmetry, and vibrant colours that are characteristic of Art Deco, while incorporating contemporary elements like gradient glass partitions and brushed champagne metal finishes. As a team, we felt that these touches of modernity added an unexpected twist to a classic design, breathing new life into the style and creating a seamless fusion of past and present.
Merging Sustainability with Luxury Design
One of the highlights of our design was the use of leftover tiles to create a sunburst feature around the central sink. This sustainable approach not only enhanced the aesthetic appeal but also underscored our commitment to eco-conscious design—proving that luxury and sustainability can go hand in hand. As we navigated through the concept development phase, the Casa Milano team provided valuable insights and samples that helped refine our ideas, ensuring we had the tools needed to bring our vision to life.
Navigating the Challenges of Presentation
The presentation to the organisers was both a nerve-wracking and exhilarating experience. We knew that the judges would be evaluating not just our design, but also our ability to present and communicate our ideas effectively. As we showcased our work, we focused on how our concept embodied the spirit of Art Deco while responding to the needs of modern living. The feedback we received was encouraging, leaving us with a sense of accomplishment and pride.

With the grand reveal of our design still to come at Downtown Design in November, there’s an air of anticipation surrounding what we've created. Our concept remains a closely guarded secret, but we can promise that it will transport you back to the glamour of the roaring ‘20s while offering a fresh perspective on luxury bathroom design. The result is not only a celebration of Art Deco but a testament to the creativity, collaboration, and dedication that define the XBD Collective team.
